What kinds of online stores does Alpha Level build?

Five engagement categories — full WooCommerce stores, Shopify migrations, headless commerce on Next.js or Astro, subscription and membership billing, and B2B or wholesale portals with account-based pricing. Each is built to the same engineering bar: clean code, fast checkout, mobile-first, and no template fluff. The platform varies; the quality does not.

WooCommerce Store

Full WooCommerce setup — products, payments, shipping, and tax configuration. Built on WordPress, owned by you.

  • Custom theme + block editor
  • Stripe / PayPal / SEPA
  • Tax & shipping zones

Shopify Migration

Move your existing store to Shopify — products, redirects, SEO preservation, and theme setup. Zero downtime cutover.

  • Full product & variant import
  • 301 redirect map (SEO-safe)
  • Custom theme or premium template

Headless Commerce

Decoupled storefront on a modern frontend (Next.js / Astro) talking to Shopify or WooCommerce APIs. Built for speed and flexibility.

  • Sub-second page loads
  • API-first product data
  • Edge-deployed (Vercel / Cloudflare)

Subscriptions & Memberships

Recurring revenue billing, customer portal, dunning & renewal flows. Stripe Billing or WooCommerce Subscriptions, whichever fits.

  • Recurring + one-off products
  • Customer self-service portal
  • Failed-payment recovery

B2B & Wholesale

Account-based pricing, quote requests, bulk order forms, net-terms checkout. Multi-language and multi-currency where needed.

  • Tiered pricing per account
  • Quote & PO workflows
  • Multi-currency / multi-lang

What does Alpha Level’s e-commerce build process look like?

Four phases on a predictable timeline. Discovery maps products, audience and competitors. Design produces mobile-first wireframes and high-fidelity screens you sign off before code is written. Build covers custom development, payment integration, product import and cross-device testing. Launch monitors performance, fixes issues fast and optimises for conversion across the first 30 days live.

01 · Discovery
We map your products, audience, and competitors — then recommend the right platform and feature set for your specific market.
02 · Design
Mobile-first wireframes & high-fidelity designs focused on conversion. You see and approve every screen before code is written.
03 · Build
Custom development, payment integration, product import, and rigorous cross-device testing. Weekly demos so you stay close to the work.
04 · Launch
Go live with confidence. We monitor performance, fix any issues fast, and optimise for conversions across the first 30 days.

Which e-commerce platform should I choose?

We pick the platform based on your products, your team, and your roadmap — not based on what we sell most. WooCommerce when full control and zero platform fees matter. Shopify when a fast hosted launch and a battle-tested checkout matter more. Headless when performance and content-heavy storytelling drive the brand. Custom only when the use case genuinely requires it.

WooCommerce

Best for WordPress shops that want full control. No monthly platform fees. Runs ~28% of online stores.

Shopify

Best for fast launch, hosted infrastructure, and a battle-tested checkout. Strong app ecosystem available.

Headless

Next.js or Astro storefront on top of Shopify or Woo APIs. Best for speed-obsessed, content-heavy brands.

Custom

For unusual requirements: marketplaces, B2B portals, complex configurators. Scoped per project basis.

* Cart abandonment ~70% per Baymard Institute (industry average across sectors). Mobile share of e-commerce traffic ~60% per public Statista data — varies by market.

Where AI changes the build.

We use Claude — Anthropic's enterprise-grade large language model — at four specific points in every e-commerce engagement. Not as a gimmick or a content firehose, but as a senior assistant that compresses the slow parts of the work. Every AI-generated artefact is reviewed and signed off by a senior team member before it touches the live store.

Product page copy at scale

A traditional rebuild rewrites maybe ten or twenty product descriptions before launch — the rest stay as generic imported strings. We use Claude to draft unique, search-optimised descriptions for every SKU in the catalogue from a single brand brief plus the structured product data. A senior editor reviews and polishes; nothing ships unreviewed. The result is a category page that ranks because every product reads as if it were hand-written, not a one-paragraph hero followed by two-hundred thin stubs.

Category architecture from real intent

We feed Claude your existing product data plus the actual queries shoppers use — pulled from Google Search Console, internal site search logs and competitor SERPs — and ask it to propose a category tree that matches buyer intent rather than internal taxonomy. A 200-SKU catalogue that used to live in five flat categories ends up in a hierarchy that mirrors how shoppers actually browse, with a brief ranking-grade landing-page copy block on every node.

A/B test hypotheses with reasoning

Traditional CRO either copies the latest playbook or guesses. We brief Claude with your live analytics, heatmaps and session recordings, and ask it to surface the three or four highest-leverage tests for this specific store — each one with a written hypothesis, predicted lift range, and the implementation pattern. A senior strategist filters the list, picks the two best, and we ship them in the post-launch sprint.

On-site recommendations from real-time intent

The Claude-powered recommendation engine we built for Bella Moda (see the case study) is now a standard option on every e-commerce build that wants it. It reads the current session's browsing pattern and surfaces relevant products on product and cart pages, replacing “best sellers” lists that often have nothing to do with what the visitor actually came for.
