Knowledge Base RAG gives your team an AI assistant that answers from your own documents — and cites them — so you get accurate answers grounded in your knowledge, not confident guesses. It uses retrieval-augmented generation (RAG): before answering, it retrieves the relevant passages from your actual content, then Claude composes a reply backed by those sources.

What it does

  • Grounds every answer in your documents — policies, handbooks, product docs, SOPs, past tickets — instead of the model’s general training.
  • Cites its sources, linking back to the documents it drew from so answers are verifiable.
  • Reduces hallucination by retrieving first and answering from what it found; if the knowledge base doesn’t cover it, it says so.
  • Connects to where your knowledge lives — Notion, Confluence, Google Drive, SharePoint or a custom store.
  • Stays current as your documents change, so answers reflect the latest version.

How is this different from just using a chatbot?

A generic chatbot answers from general training and can invent details. This retrieves your documents first and answers only from them, with citations you can check.

What happens if the answer isn’t in our documents?

It tells the user it doesn’t have that information rather than fabricating an answer — the whole point of grounding in your sources.

Is our knowledge base content kept private?

Yes. Your content is used to answer your team’s questions; it is not used to train foundation models.
